Sorry to hear it. Yes, I think a cleric would work - someone who you could play when you're there, and then become a DMPC when you're not (i.e. still continue in the action when you leave by healing party members, etc.). It would be up to the respective DMs, of course.

One thing that is slow and inefficient is having the DM slowly read off the treasure from the module while we slowly type what he says - including asking him to repeat things. Wasn't this the method of treasure division suggested by Brianna that we adopted fairly recently but not universally? It's a good system, but perhaps each party should role play its merits.

Just a note that Rangers don't get any spells until L2 and then only 2 1stL spells. They do get a couple nice cantrips, though. Wow, I see that the spellcasting of Rangers has really been beefed up in 5e! Previously, they didn't get spells until 4th level. Under 5e, full time spellcasters - like so...
